What are the economic & social costs of keeping lots of people alive but really sick for longer? A few years ago Obama stated that the cots of healthcare had crossed the trillion dollar threshold - these are rising costs of managing an aging population while the elderly get sicker, suffer more. We have a choice to either: 1) Lower the standard of care below we can technically provide, because we can can no longer afford to give the state of the art care, or 2) We are going to change the way we do medicine.
