Like many artists of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Munch introduced into his works a regular practice of motif declension. Far from being confined to a simple formal question, this practice is for him fully integrated into his reflections on the cyclical nature of his representations. Each painting produced leads irrevocably to the elaboration of another work, so much so that it is not a question of repetition but rather of a mutation of the motifs. This practice does not only apply to Munch's paintings, but also to his engravings. This video is displayed in the exhibition "Edvard Munch. A Poem of Live, Love and Death", from September 20, 2022 to January 22, 2023 at the Musée d'Orsay, in the "Re-use and mutation of the motif" room. https://bit.ly/MunchOrsay_eng A production of Musée d’Orsay / Direction du numérique Executive production: Opixido -- EXPOSITION MUNCH - Vidéo sur les techniques - FR Voir la vidéo en français : https://youtu.be/_6jb8mdBzfs
