The Story of King Parikshit and Sage Shringi . . The story of King Parikshit and Sage Shringi is a fascinating tale from Indian mythology, rich with lessons about karma, dharma, and the power of curses. It is primarily recounted in the Bhagavata Purana (Srimad Bhagavatam). Here's the full story: King Parikshit King Parikshit was the grandson of Arjuna and the son of Abhimanyu. He was a just and noble king, deeply respected for his wisdom and adherence to dharma. Parikshit ruled the Kuru kingdom after the Pandavas retired to the Himalayas. His reign marked the transition period between Dvapara Yuga and Kali Yuga. One day, during a hunting expedition, King Parikshit wandered deep into the forest in pursuit of prey. Exhausted and thirsty, he stumbled upon the hermitage of Sage Samika, who was in deep meditation. The Incident with Sage Samika Unaware of the king's presence, Sage Samika remained silent, absorbed in his penance. Parikshit, frustrated by the sage's apparent indifference, felt disrespected. In a moment of anger and arrogance, he picked up a dead snake and placed it around the sage's neck as an insult. When Sage Samika’s son, Shringi, returned to the hermitage and saw the dead snake around his father’s neck, he was enraged. Despite his father's pleas for forgiveness, Shringi, in a fit of anger, cursed King Parikshit: "Within seven days, the king will die from the bite of the serpent king, Takshaka." Parikshit's Response When Parikshit learned of the curse, he was deeply remorseful for his actions. Accepting the curse as a consequence of his behavior, he decided to prepare for his death. Parikshit handed over the reins of his kingdom to his son, Janamejaya, and retreated to the banks of the Ganga. There, he spent his final days listening to the Srimad Bhagavatam, recited by Sage Sukadeva. The discourse enlightened Parikshit about life, death, and liberation, helping him attain spiritual peace. The Death of Parikshit On the seventh day, as foretold, Takshaka, the serpent king, approached Parikshit. Despite measures taken by the king's attendants to protect him, Takshaka managed to enter the palace and bit Parikshit, fulfilling the curse. Parikshit died immediately, but his soul attained liberation due to his devotion and spiritual preparation. . . #KingParikshit #SageShringi #IndianMythology #MahabharataStories #AncientIndia #ParikshitCursed #ShringiCurse #IndianEpicTales #SnakeSacrifice #Takshaka #MythologicalLegends #HinduEpics #SpiritualWisdom #KarmaAndDharma #VedicStories #PuranicTales #AncientIndianCulture #MythicalIndia #EpicNarratives #SageAndKing
