Enterprises can significantly enhance their network performance by ensuring that their infrastructure supports business needs efficiently and reliably. Improved bandwidth management and keeping software up to date are methods of maintaining a high-performing network environment. Bandwidth refers to the maximum rate at which data can be transferred over a network or internet connection within a specific time. It is usually measured in bits per second (bps) or multiples such as kilobits per second (Kbps), megabits per second (Mbps) or gigabits per second (Gbps). Bandwidth determines the volume of information that can flow between sites, users or data networks. A higher bandwidth allows more data to be transmitted at once, leading to faster data transmission and improved network performance. Firmware is a specific type of software that provides low-level control for a device's specific hardware. Firmware is typically stored in the read-only memory (ROM) of a device and is essential for the basic operation of the hardware. It acts as the interface between a device's hardware and the software applications running on it. Firmware can be found in devices like smartphones, routers, cameras and major appliances. Manufacturers may release firmware updates to fix bugs, add features or enhance security. Drivers are specialised software programs that allow an operating system (OS) to communicate with hardware or a specific type of device. Each piece of hardware in a computer system, such as a graphics card, hard drive or keyboard, requires a driver to function properly. Drivers help the operating system and other software applications interact with a hardware device by translating their general commands into the specific commands required by the device. Drivers are often updated to improve performance, add features or enhance security.
