Watch to the end to find out :) Did you know that African elephants and Woolly mammoths existed during the same time at one point in Earth's history? They are actually not direct descendants. They branched off from their common ancestor around 6 million years ago, which is surprisingly around the same time humans split from chimpanzees. The African bush elephant; It's the largest living land animal. A bull African elephant typically weighs in around 6.5 tons, and stands up to 11 feet tall. It inhabits the grasslands of Sub-Saharan. African elephants are powerful creatures, capable of knocking down acacia trees, destroying cars, and even dominating hippos and rhinos in fights. The only predator of African elephants are lions, but lions do not hunt adults. Lions will hunt young elephants when an opportunity arises. However, mother elephants are very protective, so it's very rare to see lions taking down young elephants. Since elephants are large, they eat a lot. They can eat up to 330-375 lbs of fruits and vegetation a day. Apart from their massive size, bull elephants can be pretty territorial and aggressive, especially when they go into musth. An elephant in musth makes it one of the most dangerous animals on the planet. Musth surges an elephant's testosterone, making it more aggressive than usual. The woolly mammoth; It's one of the most iconic prehistoric animals. It lived during the Ice Age and roamed all across Europe, northern Asia, and some parts of North America. The Woolly mammoth supported thick fur, along with large, curved tusks. A bull Woolly mammoth is estimated to weigh between 4 to 6 tons, and stood about 10 feet tall. The woolly mammoth's posture is rather unique, supporting its slopped back and dome-shaped head. The woolly mammoth had many prehistoric predators such as saber-toothed cats (aka smilodons or saber-toothed tigers), wolves, cave hyenas, and human ancestors. Like the elephant, their predators likely went after young mammoths, with the exception of ancient humans, who could've likely taken down adults with various weapons. Woolly mammoths are undoubtedly very similar to elephants, with them also eating a lot of vegetation, even when it snowed out.
