We are currently thinking about America, because that is where the Consumer Electronics Show, or CES for short, is taking place in Las Vegas and in the coming days we would like to present to you everything that could possibly be of interest to electric car drivers or is so absurd that we still want to show it to you. Continental will be presenting its window projection solution for the first time at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas from January 7 to 10, 2025. With this technology, the side of the vehicle becomes an interactive communication channel: a compact mini projector projects content onto the side rear windows, which are visible from the outside. When the vehicle is parked, important information such as the charge level of an electric vehicle or the logo of your favorite team can be displayed. Using intelligent software and the so-called eTravel.companion, the system can be adapted to the driver's individual preferences. "With our window projection solution, we can project content in impressive quality onto the side windows of the vehicle. This can be tailored to the driver's world and strengthens the emotional bond with the brand," explains Pavel Prouza, Head of User Experience at Continental. The core of the new development is a space-saving mini projector that is housed in the roof lining and projects high-resolution content directly onto the window glass. As soon as the system is activated, the side window darkens electrically so that optimal contrast is achieved. Thanks to its extremely small footprint, the projector can be integrated into almost any vehicle with little effort. "The system can be easily integrated into the roof lining as it takes up hardly any installation space. Our engineers are already working on making future generations even more compact," explains Prouza. A particular strength of the new window projection solution would be its connectivity. The AI-based software eTravel.companion, which Continental developed in collaboration with the banbutsu platform, analyzes driving habits, geodata, weather information and vehicle data to create new, personalized user experiences. For example, the system recognizes when the driver is on the way to the stadium. In this case, the eTravel.companion suggests projecting the logo of the favorite team on the window. Brief subjective opinion: Couldn't they have come up with a better use case? Example: There is a dog in the electric car, the air conditioning is on, the dog is fine, the driver will be back soon - something like that could be placed there quite well, but the logo of the favorite team? Well, the ideas go further, because the battery level and personalized route suggestions, such as charging stops, can also be displayed before getting in. You heard right: Soon you will first look at the rear side windows before getting in... "With our tailor-made recommendations and the easy integration of new partners and content, our platform enables a personal and relevant user experience. Together with Continental, we are bringing technology into the vehicle," says Michael Wolters, Managing Director of banbutsu. Continental's window projection solution shows how closely mobility and digital services could be intertwined in the future. At CES 2025, the company is setting a striking example for the further development of vehicle interaction: away from the purely functional interior and towards a comprehensive communication and experience space that adapts to the wishes and needs of the occupants - and at the same time communicates effectively to the outside world. We are excited to see if and when we will see this technology in series production at some point. What other use cases - apart from advertising - could you think of?
