A view of the launchpad on July 16, 1969, as a Saturn V rocket lifts off on the Apollo 11 mission to the moon. The main shot was captured using 70mm film and is presented here in high-definition video at 60 frames per second. The video is accompanied by clips from the Apollo 8, 11, and 12 launches. The source footage does not include timecode information; the clips were synchronized approximately using two reference videos. The soundtrack is a mix of the Apollo 11 live commentary and engine audio from two archived recordings of Saturn V rocket launches.
